Why a Special Issue twenty years after the Dini reform?
It is now twenty years since, in 1995, the Dini reform was approved . It deeply transformed the Italian pension system by replacing the traditional retributive system with the contributive model. This special issue of the Rivista Politiche Sociali, launched as a result of the debates which took place during the first edition of the Social Cohesion Days, seizes the opportunity of this anniversary to initiate an assessment of the reform and, more generally, a reflection on the state of the Italian pension system two decades after the beginning of the process that has redesigned it – through the Amato reform (1992-93), the first important measure of expenditure containment and transformation towards the elderly protection multi-pillar system – as well as the change of the logic of the public pillar, with the Dini reform…
